My Week in the Outer Banks

I know this is long and it seems like we are going backwards. But, I thought some of you might want to know about my week in the Outer Banks.

Friday July 21, 2006: I worked to get quite a few things taken care of around the house before attempting to study with a friend. We discussed several aspects of the conceptualization piece of our upcoming exam. Then we ran a few errands and had dinner. We discussed more of the theories over dinner as well. Can we say this is on our minds?! After dinner my friend helped me with a couple of things before heading home. My neighbor, and friend, who is getting married in a couple of days had parked a trailer in my driveway for our trip to the Outer Banks. She and several others started bringing things over to pack the trailer, their SUV, and my SUV. I think we finished around 9:30 or so. I then had to finish packing my stuff. I managed to get to bed around 12:30-1 am.

Saturday July 22, 2006: The alarm went off way too early this morning at 5:30. My friend called as I was about to jump in the shower to make sure I was awake. We were to leave at 6:30 to head to NC. What was I thinking?! I don't get up that early for too much. She and I were waiting at 6:30 for her fiance (who, by the way, was the one who wanted to leave so early) to arrive. I think he showed up about 10 minutes later and had to rearrange the packing job from the night before to fit his stuff in their truck. We finally headed out about 7 am. And, never fear the trusted DC metro traffic was present at 7:30 am on a Saturday morning at the Wilson Memorial Bridge!! And, well, the rest of the way down to the OBX. It took 9 hours to go 317 miles. It was a long day. We were pretty tired upon arriving and didn't do too much after we unloaded the cars.

Sunday July 23, 2006: Today was fairly laid back for me. I babysat the dogs and straightened up the house for the rehearsal dinner. The dinner was supposed to be outside at another house but the rain put a damper on that plan. So, with some flexibility and good decision making, the plans were changed to the house in which I was staying. I spent the afternoon relaxing until the gang came back from the rehearsal. We had pizza and crabs for the dinner. Very laid back but a blast. The bride's nephew Tommy fell on the stairs during dinner and had to go to the hospital. I received a phone call from someone of interest as well. We were able to have a nice conversation. ;-)

Monday July 24, 2006: Today was the wedding in Buxton, NC. The church overlooks the water. It was very nice and the reception was held in the parish building. We had Pigman's BBQ for dinner. It was pretty good. It all went off very well. That evening we had a bonfire on the beach. I would guess we had about 30-40 people out there. The kids were having a blast chasing ghost crabs (they only come out at night). Overall, it was a great day!

Tuesday July 25, 2006: Once again it is raining. One of the groom's friends and I headed to Nags Head to eat lunch at Tortuga's Lie, go the grocery store to have snacks for the evening, and to the Coach outlet. On the way back, the rain stopped long enough for us to make a pit stop at Bodie lighthouse. That evening the guys played poker (they were really serious about this game) and the gals drank wine and had cheese and crackers. It was a good day other than the rain.

Wednesday July 26, 2006: Today was a good day. We spent most of it at the beach. The water was a fantastic aqua color in areas. We also had the jetskis in the water until the park police had them taken out. Not because they couldn't be in the water, but because you were not supposed to launch them from the beach. Who knows. As well, the groom's brother Tommy fell off the jet ski at one point. And, he ended up going to the hospital. Maybe it had something to do with the name Tommy. We even starting saying that the bride's brother Tommy needed to be locked in a rubber room to keep from getting hurt. That evening I went to see the sun set over the sound with a couple of friends at their place and have a glass of wine. We also went to get ice cream. Tommy was going to be ok. Just had a major contusion on his rear that was causing him difficulty walking. I actually fished in the ocean. I hadn't been fishing in years and had never done so in the ocean. I caught one fish. The others happened to catch sand sharks and different kinds of fish.

Thursday July 27, 2006: Today was another beach day. I even took my hybrid SUV on the beach. And, it was a friend's birthday. We celebrated by cooking out on the beach. Later on we headed to Avon for a little karaoke. No, I didn't sing. It was fun other than being in a bar full of smoke.

Friday July 28, 2006: We attempted going to the beach this morning. However, the sand was blowing and the water was very rough. We went to a different house and hung out by the pool. I left in the early afternoon and drove home.
