Five Year Anniversary
It is hard to believe that in a few minutes, the five year anniversary of the first plane hitting the World Trade Center will be here. In many ways it seems like yesterday that those visions were being played over and over and ingrained into our minds.
Everyone has been asking, "where were you?" I was in a training at a learning center/day care in Raleigh when the planes hit the towers. I didn't even know it had taken place until about 9:45 that morning when a peer walked into the room crying. She apologized for being late but stated what had happened. We immediately decided to have a prayer circle that lasted for quite some time. It was after the prayer circle that we decided to cancel the training. I walked out and there was a television on showing the planes hitting the towers. ..surreal, disbelief. I walked out and immediately called my mom who works in downtown Raleigh. The news had mentioned that any capital city and city that had nuclear power plants was at risk...Raleigh is the capital and has a nuclear power plant. I also was concerned for two of my friends who lived in NYC. One of whom was/is in the financial industry. I later learned they were both fine and that my friend had not been working in the WTC office that day. And, to learn about the plane hitting the Pentagon. And Flight 93. More disbelief. More sadness. What was happening?
With all the news coverage today of the events of 9/11, it is almost like reliving that day and days that followed. What an emotional time. My thoughts today will be with those that were killed and their families and friends.
