Elephants
Most of you know that I am an animal fanatic. I recently heard about an elephant sanctuary in Tennessee and have been reading about them on their website. They recently moved a 42 year old elephant from a zoo in Philadelphia to the sanctuary. It was interesting to see the process that takes place in order to do so. I started looking around on the website and found an article about PTSD and elephants. I began reading one of the articles (which was fascinating) and realized the author had taught at my alma mater - Presbyterian College. I had to look twice to make sure that I had seen it correctly. PC has great professors but it is rare that you ever see the college's name anywhere. Yay for PC and the wonderful things the sanctuary is doing for the elephants.
I saw last night the condition of a single elephant in Alaska's zoo in Anchorage and felt so sorry for her. I began thinking about how wonderful it would be if she could be taken to the sanctuary as well. There have been concerns about her welfare and the zoo is supposed to make a decision about her at the end of the summer. I will keep my fingers crossed that she is able to go to a place like the Elephant Sanctuary in TN.
