Family Reunion

This past weekend I attended a family reunion in Wolf Laurel, NC. I met cousins (both 2nd and 3rd) that I have never met before. There were a total of 14 of us. Age wise, we spanned 7 generations. In the family, it was just 2 generations.

My aunt, uncle, mom and I stayed in a house that was shaped like a pyramid. It was a little strange. The rest of the group stayed at my cousin's house next door to the pyramid.

We set out Friday morning to Linville Falls on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Five minutes after we left the house it began to rain. We went to the picnic site and the rain essentially stopped. We were able to have our picnic and then make the hike to the falls. What a beautiful site. And, great exercise.

On Saturday, we walked along part (a small part) of the Appalachian Trail. The view would have been fantastic if it hadn't been for the clouds. Where we were is above 5000 feet above sea level. I don't know what I thought the trail would be like, but it wasn't what I thought it would be. It is very narrow where we were. I guess I was thinking it would be more like the greenway parks with trails where you can walk side-by-side with someone.

Anyway, we had a really good time getting to know cousins and exploring the mountains of NC (and a step into TN on the trail).
