Get Me Out of PG County!

On my way home tonight, there were quite a few police cars on a bridge that I have to cross. No other cars except for the one lane of traffic they were letting through. As I passed the police cars, I realized there was a guy sitting on the ledge of the bridge over the Anacostia River (DC). I decided to check the news websites to see the outcome. What I found instead bothered me:

"They said that there have been 33 homicides this year, compared with 21 homicides at this point last year."

Don't you want to come live in PG County, MD?! I mean, last year we had more homicides in this county than the previous year. And, it looks like this trend might continue despite more local police departments being developed and the county police allowing for overtime. I have noticed two county police cars in my neighborhood in the last couple of months. Nice to see that they live in the neighborhood. I have to laugh as I go by one house because there are two "civilian" cars, a cab, and a police car in the driveway and on the street. Is it a police officer who moonlights as a cab driver?! The imagination can certainly run wild at times. ;-)

I couldn't find anything about the guy on the bridge. But, he wasn't moving or even paying attention to the police who were scurrying about and directing traffic. I wonder what was going through that person's mind. Was he just there because he got tired of walking? Was he threatening to hurt himself? Hmmm. Hopefully he is ok and will get whatever help he needs.
