Weekend at Kanuga
I flew down on Thursday night to Raleigh. On Friday morning, we packed the car and headed to Kanuga. We made a stop in Saluda on our way. It is always nice to visit the little shops in Saluda and see the crafts. I bought a beautiful pottery bowl that my mom will bring to me when she comes to visit here shortly.

We arrived at Kanuga in time to get ready for cocktail hour. My mom, the wonderful person that she is, brought a cake to celebrate my birthday. She invited a couple of people that we know to join us for dinner and share in my celebration. Then we had church to open the Board of Visitors weekend. After hanging out in the cabin for a while, we were off to bed. It didn't feel like I slept but apparently I did more than I thought. It seemed like I was completely aware of everything going on around me. However, my mom woke up Saturday morning to tell me that a car alarm had gone off in the middle of the night and she had gotten up several times. I was completely unaware of those occurrences.
Most of the day was spent in meetings to learn about the current happenings at Kanuga. We were able to get away for a short time in the afternoon and headed in to Hendersonville to shop. It is another neat town. The shops close early on Saturdays...small town atmosphere. We headed back to Kanuga for dinner before heading into Flat Rock to see"I Love You, You're Perfect...Now Change" at the Flat Rock Playhouse. It was funny and we laughed quite a bit.

We learned on Saturday that one of my favorite places was up for sale. Eagle Rock has been a great place to hike to while at Kanuga. The property is adjacent to Kanuga and the owners have always allowed people from Kanuga to hike there and look at the incredible view as seen in the picture below. There is a move by some people who love Kanuga to try and purchase the property so that those who enjoy/love Kanuga can continue to hike to Eagle Rock. If you were to jump down from the rock you see in the picture and look back at it, it looks like the head of an eagle. It is an amazing thing to see. Keep your fingers crossed that it remains Kanuga friendly!

Sunday morning was filled with a breakfast snack, church, and brunch before heading back to Raleigh. One of my friends came over in the afternoon for a visit. We had fun catching up and laughing. She is just so much fun to be around. Mom and I ran to a dinner club from church before heading off to the airport for my flight back to MD.

It is always a good weekend when you spend it at Kanuga. It is such a peaceful and wonderful place to be. And, I enjoy spending my birthday there every year. Check out their website by clicking on the link above or the link to the left. They are willing to have businesses use the facilities as well. So, if you know someone that travels to have conferences or trust building sessions, check the site out.
