911 Operator

I am appalled at the recent news about the boy who called 911 and the operator who didn't believe him. What the heck?! I understand that kids will prank call. But, come on! You could tell this child was not calling to play a joke by listening to the tapes. And, to treat someone that seriously calls for help in that way is appalling. The poor kid has now lost his mother for doing the right thing and was yelled at by the operator. And, what kid is going to wait for the police for 3 hours and call back for help if it is a prank? That 911 operator...I think if 911 is called, they should respond to the call. You never know what could be going on.

I have worked with gang involved youth. I am currently working with juvenile delinquents. And, I am not just talking about ones that play pranks on others. These kids steal cars, stab people, sell drugs, and a whole host of other offenses. This kid is nothing like the ones I work with. But, I would expect a 911 operator to respond to them with as much respect as they should to you and me.
