Weekend
Yes, it is early in the morning on Monday but it is still Sunday night to me. So, I am gonna write as if it is still Sunday.
My mom came in on Thursday for a short visit. It was nice to have her here again. It has been almost two years since she last came to visit. I admit, I usually go home. So, we chatted for a bit when I got home from work and had dinner. It was a pretty calm evening.
Friday morning was sad for me. I had Madison, my Mad Kitty, put down. He had lost a lot of weight due to the cancer. My mom went with me for support. I was so glad. I sad my good-bye to him before taking him to the vet. We were able to go in the room with him. They explained the process to us. They gave him a sedative. I held him for a minute until it took effect and he pretty much went limp in my arms. I laid him on the table and just loved on him until it was time for them to give him the next shot and we left the room. In some strange way, it was almost comforting to be with him. I hope that he is in a better place and able to run free again in the fields and forests. That was what he loved to do and wasn't able to since moving to MD. The vet said that his ashes would be spread at an apple orchard. I thought that was pretty neat.
Mom and I went to IKEA to do some shopping and one of my friend's met us there for lunch. It was nice. Then we came home to change clothes and head in to DC. Momma got her first experience on the metro and the commuter lifestyle. I had bought tickets for Cirque du Soleil for her birthday. We saw Corteo. It was great! She really enjoyed the show. We then headed to Rosa Mexicano for dinner before heading home. Needless to say, Friday was a bittersweet day. We spent the evening putting my new lamp together and rearranging furniture for the kitchen remodel that is scheduled to begin in approximately 7.5 hours.
On Saturday, we headed back to IKEA after taking care of a few things around the house. She wanted something she had seen there and I had decided the table I saw would work great for the kitchen. I also ended up with two more lamps. The funny thing was that on Friday I left a piece of paper somewhere in the store that I had written information on it...only to realize later that I had left it somewhere. And, that piece of paper was right where I left it. We came home and put the table and lamps together before Momma headed off.
I had about an hour to relax before heading out to Bowie to meet friends for a surprise birthday party. She was definitely surprised. Especially when she was given tickets to go see Barenaked Ladies at the Patriot Center. It took her a few minutes to realize that the show was that evening. Once she did, her husband pulled the rest of the tickets out and told her we were all going. It was a fun night. Her husband had borrowed his aunt's van and drove 12 of us to the concert. It was a great time and the concert was awesome.
Today (Sunday), I spent clearing out the kitchen. Then, we had a surprise dinner for a friend whose birthday had been on Thursday. Apparently she had been telling people that her friends "sucked" because we hadn't planned anything for her birthday. We had a great time tonight. Now I am off to bed since I need to be up in less than 7 hours to be prepared for the contractors to get started on the kitchen...it will be nice when it is all finished!
